    Faliraki Sea Lines

    Having spent most of my adult life promoting boat trips it still surprises me when parents scoff at the suggestion of a boat trip with the comment “Oh no! We have children.” What could be better for landlubbing children than a boat trip???

    For most children the sea is a whole, new, undiscovered world that they can experience only on holiday: How and why do boats float? Why is the sea blue but the water colourless? Do fish drink the water?.....A myriad of thought provoking questions that a simple boat trip can generate.

    Beyond their questions, of course, lies the experience – one that excites all senses;

    • Watching the captain, the-all-powerful-his-word-is-rule person, who skilfully navigates his boat to the hidden caves, bays and beaches;
    • Noticing the safety equipment and procedures that are carefully in place;
    • Hearing the gentle hum of the engines followed by the clunking of the anchor chain and a huge ‘splash’ as the anchor is dropped in an up-until-now silent bay;
    • Breathing in unpolluted air;
    • Feeling the warmth of the sea on jumping in and tasting its saltiness

    Then, of course, consider the sea-life: Although the presence of dolphins is a rare and wondrous occasion other, more regular life forms are easily recognisable in the depths – a variety of fish, the occasional octopus, eel or crab. Encourage your children to make use of the snorkelling equipment found on board the boats and help them to develop an interest in nature. A real-life experience will etch itself far deeper in their memories than any documentary.

    Beverley owns and runs the Faliraki Sea Lines shipping company operating out of Faliraki and Rhodes Town. Beverley recommends trying her 2 hour mini cruise (featuring swimming and snorkelling in the magnificent Anthony Quinn Bay) and the Sea Shuttle service operating between Rhodes Town and Faliraki as a taster for children although her company offers full day boat excursions too. All her excursions are pushchair and wheelchair friendly.
